Raw Fit Check

Is Raw Dawg right for your dog?

Most brands will sell to anyone with a card. We won't.

Raw can be a strong fit for many dogs, but some dogs are not in the right place to start yet. Here is the honest version of when to start, when to wait, and how to think about raw feeding.

The Quick Read

Timing matters as much as the bowl.

Raw feeding works best when the dog, the gut, and the household are ready.

Wait when needed.

Some dogs need time, recovery, or veterinary guidance before the first bowl.

Start lean and slow.

Small bowls and careful observation beat a hard switch.

Food, not medicine.

No diagnosis. No treatment claims. The feeding decision stays with you and your veterinarian.

When to wait before the first bowl.

Use this as a practical checkpoint before you order.

Raw can be a great fit for puppies, but growing pups need a puppy-balanced formula with more calories and the right calcium-to-phosphorus ratio to build bone. Raw Dawg is dialed for grown dogs, so we would start after the skeleton is done growing: around 12 months for most dogs and 18 months for giant breeds.

Not on the Wait List

Older dogs can still eat real food.

Older dogs often do better with a slower ramp and a lighter hand. Think smaller portions, leaner blends, and a few days of observation before you move up.

Same real food. Sized for where your dog is now.

Food, Not Medicine

The call is yours.

Raw Dawg products are food, not medicine. Nothing on this site, including our quiz, this page, or product content, constitutes veterinary advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment plan. Decisions about what and when to feed your dog are yours to make.

By purchasing Raw Dawg, you confirm your dog is an appropriate candidate for raw feeding and accept responsibility for your feeding decisions. Raw food carries bacteria; handle and store as directed in our Safe Handling & Storage instructions.

Always consult your veterinarian before making significant changes to your dog’s diet.
