How to Feed Raw Dawg

Freezer. Fridge. Bowl.

Your Raw Dawg arrived.
Now what?
Good news: this part is simple.

Raw Dawg was built to make raw feeding easier to maintain in real life. We source the animal ingredients, build the blend, grind it, package it, and freeze it so you do not have to start from scratch.

We build the foundation.
You build the bowl.
Here’s how to feed it.

Step 1: Choose Your Blend

Raw Dawg comes in different animal-based blends because we do not believe one protein needs to do everything forever.

Beef brings something different to the bowl than turkey. Turkey brings something different than salmon. Each animal has its own nutritional profile, texture, fat level, and feeding purpose.

You can start with one protein your dog already does well on, or you can work multiple blends into your rotation over time.
There is no universal “best” Raw Dawg blend.
There is the dog in front of you.
Start there.

Step 2: Thaw What You Need

Keep Raw Dawg frozen until you are ready to use it.

Move what you need into the refrigerator and let it thaw slowly. We recommend thawing inside a dedicated container to keep everything contained, organized, and easy to portion.

Once thawed, you are ready to build the bowl.

Step 3: Start With Raw Dawg

This is the important part.
Raw Dawg is designed to be the animal-based foundation of the bowl.

Our blends combine muscle meat, edible bone, organs, and other whole-animal ingredients so you do not have to source, measure, grind, and prepare all of those parts yourself.

That foundation matters.

Muscle meat alone is not a complete raw diet. Neither is liver, bone, or one protein fed every day without thought. A stronger bowl starts with variety from the animal itself.

Raw Dawg gives you that starting point.
From there, you finish the bowl based on the specific blend you are feeding.

Step 4: Build the Rest of the Bowl

Think of Raw Dawg as your base, not a closed nutritional system.

Start with the ingredients and product details on our blend pages, and our feeding FAQ. These explain the food and how to use it; they are not individualized bowl-balancing instructions.

Depending on the recipe, that may mean adding a specific whole food, fatty-acid source, mineral source, fiber source, or targeted supplement.

Not because more ingredients automatically make a bowl better.
Because every ingredient should have a reason for being there.
Our philosophy is simple:
Get as much nutrition as we reasonably can from real food first. Then fill the gaps intentionally.
No guessing.

No seventeen-ingredient grocery list.
No pretending every blend needs the exact same add-ons.
Just clear guidance based on what is already in the food.

Step 5: Portion for Your Dog

There is no single perfect serving size for every dog.
How much your dog needs depends on several factors, including:

  • body weight
  • age
  • activity level
  • metabolism
  • body condition
  • reproductive status
  • health history
  • whether Raw Dawg is most of the diet or only part of it

Our feeding calculator and transition planner give healthy adult dogs a starting point for full-daily-food quantities, not topper portions or recipe balancing.
Then your dog gives you feedback.

Watch body condition, energy, appetite, stool quality, and weight over time. If your dog is gaining more weight than you want, reduce the amount. If your dog is losing weight when they should not be, increase it. If activity changes, food may need to change too.

A calculator is helpful.
Your dog is the final answer.

Step 6: Rotate Over Time

We believe in rotation because different animals bring different nutrients to the diet.
You do not have to change proteins every meal. You also do not need to panic if your dog does best on one blend for a while.
Think bigger than a single bowl.
Over time, you can rotate through proteins that your dog tolerates well and build more diversity into the diet.
One important note: rotation by itself does not automatically make a diet complete.

That is why additions need to be planned for the specific blend and your dog’s overall diet. For a recipe-specific plan, consult a veterinarian qualified in nutrition.
Variety matters.
So does intention.

What If I’m New to Raw Feeding?

You do not need to throw out your dog’s current food tonight and replace the entire bowl tomorrow morning.
For many dogs, a gradual transition is easier.
Start by adding a smaller amount of Raw Dawg alongside their current food. Then increase gradually as your dog adjusts.
Pay attention to what you see:

  • appetite
  • stool quality
  • energy
  • body condition
  • digestion
  • tolerance

Some dogs transition quickly. Others do better with a slower introduction.
There is no prize for switching the fastest.
The goal is a dog that does well.

Can I Use Raw Dawg as a Topper?

Yes.

Raw Dawg is designed primarily to serve as the base of a raw bowl, but it can also be used as an easy way to add whole-animal nutrition to a diet you are not ready to fully change.

Add some to your dog’s existing food.
That is it.
You do not have to become a full DIY raw feeder on day one to start improving what goes into the bowl.

What If My Dog Does Not Like a Blend?

Try another one.
Dogs have preferences too.
Some dogs lose their minds over green tripe. Others act like you personally offended them.

One blend not being a hit does not mean raw feeding is not for your dog. It may simply mean that particular protein, texture, smell, or fat level is not their favorite.

That is one reason we make more than one blend.

Keep It Simple

Raw feeding can get complicated if you let it.
We would rather give you a system you can actually stick with.
Choose your blend.
Thaw what you need.
Build the bowl.

Feed your dog.
Rotate over time.
Then get on with your life.
That is the point.
Raw Dawg builds the foundation.

You build the bowl.
